Curiosity about tradition and modernity: the Ensemble Academy is a joint institution of the two internationally renowned and specialized orchestras, ensemble recherche and the Freiburg BaroqueOrchestra. Both formations are impressive examples of how specialization in one repertoire and fascination for the new belong together. The search for exciting worlds of sound unites them just as much as the desire for the unknown. The aim of the Ensemble Academy is to combine the two ensembles‘ focal points in older and newer music, thus providing a forum for exchange.
This collaboration of two completely differently oriented ensembles, unique on the international music scene, has resulted in a close contentual bond upon which the idea of a shared Ensemble House in Freiburg is based. The central aim of this Ensemble House is, naturally, to finally provide a fixed rehearsal space for both orchestras. But that is not all: the Ensemble Academy will also have its own base.
