SUMMARY:Reingelauscht - ABO 1
DESCRIPTION:Imagine walking down a corridor\, past a door left ajar – and hearing a peculiar mix of hums\, squeaks\, creaks\, groaning\,and hammering emerging from inside the room. Curious\, you take a quick peek into the room\, to figure out what the source of the noise is. \nIn this concert\, we invite the audience to peek into every world of strange noises they encounter. Stefan Prins\, Anna-Louise Walton\, Kristine Tjøgersen and Maja Bosnić each create fascinating sound worlds of their own. Each piece presents new impulses and questions\, which accompany us beyond the limits of the concert hall. \nStefan Prins’ intensive\, electronic soundworld teems with feedback and fine layers. Anna-Louise Walton’s choreographic piece for object ensemble brings together precision and playfulness in the most fascinating of ways. Kristine Tjøgersen brings a poetic\, natural dimension to the concerthall with instrumental imitations of birdsong. Maja Bosnić’s ((mno.go)) dissolves the fourth wall between the musicians and the audience. \nBut it will not be enough to participate passively in this concert. Instead\, the focus is on active discovery: in the form of a participative intervention\, sounds from pieces played will be recreated\, altered\, and experienced anew. Every sound which occurs in the concert hall will be microphoned and processed. In this way\, every movement and every noise modifies the soundscape of the room and becomes part of the musical process. New artist duo is born: Recherche and its Audience! Alternatively: composition and improvisation. \n  \nWith works by\nStefan Prins\, Anna-Louise Walton\, Kristine Tjøgersen and Maja Bosnić \n  \nENSEMBLE RECHERCHE\nAnja Clift\, flute\nEduardo Olloqui\, oboe\nShizuyo Oka\, clarinet\nKlaus Steffes-Holländer\, piano\nChristian Dierstein\, percussion\nAdam Woodward\, violin\nSofia von Atzingen\, viola\nÅsa Åkerberg\, violoncello\nLukas Nowok\, sound design \n  \nTickets\navailable at reservix.de\, at Badische Zeitung Ticketservice and at the box office. \n  \nSupported by \nFreunde of the Ensemble Recherche e.V.

SUMMARY:Final concert @Ensemble Academy
DESCRIPTION:Final concert with participants of the Academy Week \nThe Academy-Week is the event at the heart of the Ensemble Academy Freiburg. This year\, it takes place from 1st to 6th of september. \nSurpassing the co-existence of different styles and periods\, this program aims to give participants a thorough understanding of early and contemporary music. Since mutual artistic inspiration is absolutely vital to this endeavour\, we are convinced participants will benefit greatly from sharing their experiences with different performance techniques and broadening their horizon by learning new approaches. What we hope to achieve with Academy-Week is to give participants the opportunity to learn specific skills for use in specialised ensembles and to simply come together in their joy of making music. \n  \nFree entrance. Donations are welcome. \n  \nMore information: ensemble-akademie.de & reservix.de

DESCRIPTION:Salon 1955 \n\n\nIn Baden-Baden in 1955\, Pierre Boulez set three cycles of poems by the surrealist René Char to music. However\, he did not order the poem cycles one after the other. Artists such as Henri Matisse and Georges Braque illustrated his poems.\n“Le Marteau sans maître” will now be performed at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden on the occasion of Pierre Boulez’s 100th birthday.\n  \n\nWith works by\nPierre Boulez \n  \nENSEMBLE RECHERCHE \n  \nTickets and further information: www.festspielhaus.de \n

SUMMARY:A Song of Salt and Water - a staged family concert No. 2 @Baden-Baden
DESCRIPTION:We find ourselves underwater: with composers Kristine Tjøgersen and Mads Emil Dreyer we dive into the sound of singing schools of fish and marvel at the colorful play of the cuttlefish. But as beautiful as this underwater world is\, it is also threatened: coral bleaching\, plastic waste\, overfishing\, extinction of species\, hearing-impaired porpoises…. \nTim Gordon\, a researcher of coral reefs\, reports from the Great Barrier Reef\, a coral reef off the coast of Australia: „Once there was color and life everywhere in this incredible landscape\, but now it resembles a graveyard. Not only has it become much quieter here\, but also the quality of the sounds has changed. The acoustic complexity is gone\, there‘s much less going on today – you can literally hear a dying riff.“ Changes caused by humans\, threatened ecosystems and complex nutritional systems that are out of balance… And yet the music manages to avoid an apocalyptic mood or hopelessness despite these serious themes. Rather\, her fine music sensitizes us to the beauty of the underwater world and touches us so strongly precisely because we become aware of what is in danger of being lost. \n  \n\nWith works by\nKristine Tjøgersen and Mads Emil Dreyer \n  \nENSEMBLE RECHERCHE\nAnja Clift\, flute\nEduardo Olloqui\, oboe\nShizuyo Oka\, clarinet\nKlaus Steffes-Holländer\, piano\nChristian Dierstein\, percussion\nAdam Woodward\, violin\nSofia von Atzingen\, viola\nÅsa Åkerberg\, violoncello \nMiriam Götz\, Director\nChristine Löbbert\, inclusion consulting\nCharlotte Morache\, set design\nNatalie Stark\, light design \n  \nSuitable for children from the age of 6\, with and without visual or hearing impairments.

DESCRIPTION:Staged family concert \nA dive into the sea to hear\, see and touch – completely non-verbal\, because you can only communicate with gestures\, signs and light signals when you are underwater. And here\, of course\, with all the means of music. The eight musicians of the Freiburg-based Ensemble Recherche play music by Kristine Tjøgersen as well as new compositions by Mads Emil Dreyer. The sound artist Lukas Nowok creates soundscapes that rustle\, gurgle and flow\, as if the concert hall were a large pool of water. The distinction between music coming from instruments and loudspeakers become blurred. In the spirit of sustainability\, the set is made from eco-certified and recycled materials. \n  \nWith works by\nKristine Tjøgersen and Mads Emil Dreyer \n  \nENSEMBLE RECHERCHE\nAnja Clift\, flute\nEduardo Olloqui\, oboe\nShizuyo Oka\, clarinet\nKlaus Steffes-Holländer\, piano\nChristian Dierstein\, percussion\nAdam Woodward\, violin\nSofia von Atzingen\, viola\nÅsa Åkerberg\, violoncello\nLukas Nowok\, sound design \nMiriam Götz\, direction\nCharlotte Morache\, set design\nNatalie Stark\, light design\nChristine Löbbert\,  Inclusion consulting \n  \nSuitable for children aged 6 and over\, with and without visual or hearing impairments.

SUMMARY:ABO 4 - Innen
DESCRIPTION:The Helsinki Chamber Choir is visiting Freiburg! \n  \nNew choral sounds from Scandinavia meet instrumental music from France and Serbia\, until the evening culminates in Vito Žuraj’s new work ‘INNEN’\, which he composed especially for Ensemble Recherche and Helsinki Chamber Choir in collaboration with the Austrian author Klaus Händl. \nVito Žuraj says of his new work: ‘The libretto of “INNEN” explores the deep connections between physical impairment and creative expression. It draws on the life of Claude Monet\, whose progressive visual impairment had a lasting impact on his art.’ \nŽuraj\, who suffered from severe stuttering as a child\, recognised a parallel to his own story in Monet’s fate. The audience experiences the formative journey of letting go the stuttering in musical form. The three-part libretto initially builds up a great deal of tension\, which seems to be released in the second part. In the end\, however\, it becomes clear that a certain tension always remains. \nFollowing the world premiere in Finland\, the two ensembles are now bringing their joint programme to Germany – under the baton of a former Freiburg resident: Nils Schweckendiek\, who studied musicology as well as orchestral and choral conducting at the local university in addition to Cambridge and Helsinki. \n  \n  \nWith works by\nVito Žuraj\, Malin Bång\, Franck Bedrossian\, Perttu Haapanen\, Jug K. DESCRIPTION:“Balades Oniriques” – Portrait of Farnaz Modarresifar \n“Balades Oniriques” is the first result of a long-term collaboration between Ensemble Recherche and Paris-based Iranian composer and santoor player Farnaz Modarresifar. Modarresifar is known for the novel musical syntax she has developed for her instrument – a combination of Persian traditional modality and a contemporary European approach to the exploration of timbre. SUMMARY:ABO 3 - Kammerwunder
DESCRIPTION:Music – feels real \n  \nEnsemble Recherche creates a cabinet of curiosities with pieces to amaze and doubt. Music between truth and illusion\, between fibbing and effectiveness. Li-Ying Wu deals with the manipulative effect of fake news and the question of how we can communicate with each other with understanding. With Stefan Prins\, we enter a musical hall of mirrors that promises healing through deliberate self-deception. In his oratorio for Chat GPT\, Antonio la Spina lets the algorithm oracle about the future of human creativity. Swantje Lichtenstein’s electronic pieces are based on digital revenants\, on deepfakes of real people. \nThe second part of the concert will feature the Freiburg premiere of ‘Laub’\, which Enno Poppe wrote for Recherche and premiered in Cologne in 2024. ‘Laub’ works like the Silent Mail: each bar is a variation of the previous one until a completely different message is communicated at the end. Does this message have anything to do with foliage\, or does Poppe’s powerful choice of title tempt us to want to hear the rustling of leaves in the music? \nThere are enough absurd and alarming events in the world to leave us open-mouthed in amazement. On this evening\, it is our ears that we should open in amazement – perhaps there will be a small chamber miracle. \n  \nWith works by\nStefan Prins\, Antonio la Spina\, Swantje Lichtenstein\, Li-Ying Wu and Enno Poppe \n  \nENSEMBLE RECHERCHE\nAnja Clift\, flute\nEduardo Olloqui\, oboe\nShizuyo Oka\, clarinet\nKlaus Steffes-Holländer\, piano\nChristian Dierstein\, percussion\nAdam Woodward\, violin\nSofia von Atzingen\, viola\nÅsa Åkerberg\, violoncello\nLukas Nowok\, sound design \nSizhe Shen\, guitar (as a guest) \n  \nTickets\navailable at reservix.de\, at Badische Zeitung Ticketservice and at the box office. \n  \nA cooperation \nbetween Ensemble Recherche and the Freunde of the Ensemble Recherche e.V. \n  \nThis project is part of a broad effort by Ensemble Recherche in its 2024/25 season (“What is Real/What is Not”) to engage in discussion about Artificial Intelligence and the impact it will have on Art and Creativity. \n  \n \n  \nphoto: © Federigo Federighi  / CC-BY-SA-4.0
