DESCRIPTION:© Mai Toyama \nThe music of Farnaz Modarresifar exhibits the interplay between notation and improvisation. Her music thrives on trust and the close collaboration between herself and the musicians. Modarresifar’s works bring together touches of traditional Persian music with a contemporary musical language\, characterized by the use of extended techniques\, sound gestures\, and a sensitivity for timing\, stillness\, and resonance. She creates a detailed sound world which calls for our attentiveness in the moment. \nWithin our first working phase\, which was held in preparation for our performance at the Festival Archipel in Geneva\, Ensemble Recherche worked closely with Farnaz Modarresifar\, developing a common musical language which formed the basis of our intensive collaboration. Building on this dialogue\, this new programme presents existing works alongside improvisations\, as well as the world premiere of a piece for soprano\, santur and Recherche. \nThe voice of Marie Soubestre plays a central role in the programme. Her longstanding collaboration with Farnaz Modarresifar facilitates their muscial rapport. Her expressive vocal capabilities expands the spectrum of sound possibilities and gives the music a lively\, touching presence. \nIn the collaboration between Farnaz Modarresifar\, Ensemble Recherche\, and Marie Soubestre\, a musical cosmos is created\, where individualised forms of expression meet improvisation and composed structures\, and where the western avantgarde meets Persian traditions.
