Klaus Steffes-Holländer

Klaus Steffes-Holländer studied the piano at the Cologne College of Music and Dance under Aloys Kontarsky and in Paris under Claude Helffer and Gérard Frémy with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He studied further under Paul Badura-Skoda. He has won many awards, including at the Gaudeamus International Interpreters Award in Rotterdam, the Girona Piano Competition (for his interpretation of Stockhausen’s Klavierstück X) and the Competition for Contemporary Piano Music in Sitges/Barcelona (First Prize). He has been a pianist with the Ensemble Recherche since 1995. He occasionally works with jazz bands and free improvisation groups. In 2014 he founded together with Joach Hass the Duo Haoka (piano and live electronic).
