Anja Clift (née Brezavšček, 1987) completed her studies in Ljubljana at the Conservatory with Matej Grahek and at the Academy of Music with Karolina Šantl Zupan. In order to broaden her understanding of music on a theoretical level, she studied musicology at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. In 2014 she earned a specialized master’s degree in contemporary music at the Hochschule für Musik Basel and in 2016 a Master of Music Pedagogy at the Hochschule of the Arts Bern with Prof. Martin Fahlenbock.
Her performances have been honored at several competitions – in 2010 and 2011 she was awarded first prize at the ISA Summer Academy Competition for Contemporary Music. In 2012, she received the Academic Prešeren Award for her outstanding interpretation of Carl Nielsen’s Flute Concerto, and in 2013 she won first prize at the International Competition “Giovani musicisti – Cittá di Treviso” for contemporary music.
She has performed at several contemporary music festivals, including the Darmstadt Summer Courses, Impuls, Festival Archipel Geneva, Biennale Koper, Zeiträume Basel, World Music Days, Eclat or the International Computer Music Conference. She is a member of chamber ensembles (Ensemble neuverBand, which she co-founded in 2013, ensembles TaG and Neofonia) and is also in demand as a soloist.
Since 2022 she holds the flute position in Ensemble Recherche.
