Christian Dierstein

Christian Dierstein has been a member of the Ensemble Recherche since 1988. He studied under Bernhard Wulff in Freiburg and under Gaston Sylvestre in Paris, has won numerous awards at international competitions, and received scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation and the Schloss Solitude Academy in Stuttgart. He has performed solo concertos throughout Europe as part of the ‘Rising Stars’ series. He co-founded the accanto trio with Marcus Weiss and Yukiko Sugawara. Apart from contemporary music, he is particularly interested in non-European music and improvisation. The most notable composers of our time, such as Hans Abrahamsen, Beat Furrer, Hugues Dufourt, Helmut Lachenmann, Rebecca Saunders and Salvatore Sciarrino appreciate regular collaborations with him. He has been Professor for Percussion and Contemporary Chamber Music at the Basel University of Music in Switzerland since 2001. His teaching activities are rounded out with master classes all over the world.
