How the future sounded, how the past will sound
Since its creation in 1985, Ensemble Recherche has made a truly significant contribution to the culture of contemporary music in Germany and around the world. In 2025, we celebrate the ensemble’s 40th birthday by looking back – and forward – at some of the works and collaborations with composers that have shaped, and continue to shape, our creative identity.
40 Jahre Recherche! comprises four concerts – each dedicated to a decade of the ensemble’s existence –held over a three-day period in Ensemblehaus Freiburg. The programmes, curated collectively by ensemble members and artistic management, combine masterworks by familiar names with world premieres by younger composers whose creative visions we admire.
