Against all odds: the Erasmus exchange program between the Freiburg University of Music and the music academies in Kyiv will continue even in times of war. Shortly after the outbreak of the war, students from Ukraine were able to continue their education in Freiburg. The exchange between the Freiburg and Kyiv instrumental and composition classes also continues. Ensemble Recherche would like to contribute to this inner-European relationship and will perform pieces by composition students from Kyiv and Freiburg in a concert. For this purpose, it will form a mixed „side-by-side“ ensemble together with musicians from the Freiburg University of Music, conducted by Friederike Scheuchen. To that end, Ensemble Recherche was eager to also perform music by Ukrainian composer and professor Alla Zagaykevych. Since the 1990s, she has played a major role in shaping Ukrainian contemporary music education and has, among other things, founded a university studio for electronic music in Kyiv.
