A journey to the moon

The poems by Albert Giraud on which Schönberg’s melodrama is based paint feverish pictures of the mind. People once spoke of “moon addiction” or, like Giraud, “moon drunkenness”. Together with Ensemble Recherche, soprano Sarah Maria Sun embarks on a search for the folk roots of Arnold Schönberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” as well as for the moon motive in classical music and pop culture. The program combines Schönberg’s masterpiece with creative arrangements of pop songs and classical music works – composed especially for this evening.
