The string trio is the formation with which the ensemble began in 1985, and it has remained an important element of the ensemble ever since. Several pieces have been composed for Trio Recherche, a notable recent piece among them being Helmut Lachenmann’s String Trio No. 2 Mes adieux (2021/22), whose premiere took place at the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik in 2022.
