urban sounds – What does gentrification sound like?

Rising rents and inner-city densification set the political discussion in cities like Freiburg and Stuttgart. Take Freiburg as an example: since 2014, the “Güterbahnhof Nord” site (390,000 m2) has gone through “development” by a major real estate group. Where brownfield land (and thus inexpensive rehearsal rooms) once was, is now real estate growing “in a prime location”. In a city like Freiburg, living space is urgently needed—but who can afford that what is advertised in real estate jargon as “urban chic”? How does a neighborhood sound where vacancies and openness have been replaced by a coworking space for start-ups? ensemble recherche embarks on a creative search, seeks to listen and make gentrification processes sound.
