A story many years in the making: Ensemble Recherche is overjoyed to present the world premiere of a large-scale work for seven performers by Enno Poppe (co-commissioned by Ensembles Cikada (Norway) and Explore (UK)) alongside premieres by Taiwanese composer and laureate of the Internationaler Acht Brücken Kompositionswettbewerb Po-Chien Liu as well as the iranian composer Farzia Fallah. In describing his work-in-progress, Poppe wrote the following:
“I feel the need is to try something different in each piece. After having written some large-scale works, some of which are very loud and dense, I first wrote numerous miniatures to escape from large-scale forms and focus on the moment. Earlier chamber music works are particularly wild and intense; I made them so in order to endow the small instrumentations with a special energy. This new chamber music piece, on the other hand, is meant to be delicate and expansive. I start with very little, the fragments of a melody, tiny elements that are very similar to each other. From these germ cells, a dense network of relationships emerges, a jungle, a dream. The piece is always on the threshold between order and disorder. It sings, it waits.”
