Postcolonial Recherche’s fellow AJ Villanueva wrote for us a piece with the title "bayan(i)-k(a)-(ba)-o-(ano?)" 🤩The composer says: "This piece is a commentary on the massive disinformation campaign in the Philippines aiming to “choke” the truth using social media making citizens believe another truth, hence a duality of truth, and thus discrediting any other truth benefitting those people regaining power."Live recording: See MoreSee Less

EXIT PLUS ULTRA – first episode of our „Postcolonial Recherche“ documentation 😍 Since modern times, the idea of constant progress has shaped European culture: "Plus ultra," to the extreme, it should go – on the globe and its oceans, but also in music. In his collection of essays "Karte, Uhr und Partitur" (Map, Clock and Score), the Freiburg composer Johannes Schöllhorn points out parallels between colonial world conquest and musical thinking about progress. With postcolonial debates, however, doubts about this belief in progress increasingly arise. How can one critically deal with one’s own colonial history and its present consequences from a Western musical point of view? And how do artists from formerly colonized countries compose? The project "Exit Plus Ultra" presents six musical perspectives on these questions and leads to a concert in Freiburg and a radio essay for Deutschlandfunk.A project by Ensemble Recherche Dramaturgie: Elisa ErkelenzCo-curator for „Postcolonial Recherche“: Bongani Ndodana-BreenMusic by: Johannes Schöllhorn, Farzia Fallah, Leopold Hurt, Ayo Oluranti, Macri Cáceres, AJ VillanuevaLena Drieschner, Sylvana Seddig: SchauspielJakob Boeckh: Visual ArtistVideo documentary: Friedemann Dupelius, Manuel Gerlach, Sebastian Zuleta See MoreSee Less

Last minute substitutes 🎻🔥 we are so grateful that tonight at Wien Modern, Nurit Stark and Jacobo Hernández Enríquez will replace our violin player Melise Mellinger. When she got her positive covid test result on Sunday, we thought learning #Lachenmann string trio in less than 48 hours is not possible. Not speaking of Annesley Black’s world premiere and two pieces by Kristine Tjøgersen and Sciarrino. But… Nurit and Jacobo are proving the opposite and are making the impossible possible! Nurit Stark will perform the violin part in tonight’s Austrian premiere of Lachenmann’s string trio n. 2 “Mes Adieux”. Jacobo Hernández Enríquez is performing the violin part in Black, Sciarrino and Tjøgersen. Wow, what a courage, what fabulous players 🤩 and after the dress rehearsal, we can say: it will be a blast. Don’t miss it! 😍😍 — get well soon, dear Melise! 🥰 See MoreSee Less

It is with enormous shock and great sadness that we have been informed that Argentine composer Patricia Martínez has passed away. 😢 We had the privilege to get to know Patricia last year as a "Postcolonial Recherche" Fellow, as an enormously talented, smart and curious composer. Dear Patricia, we only now understand how existential your piece "The End of The World – Endless I" was for you. We will premiere it on December 5, thinking of you! ❤️ R.I.P. See MoreSee Less
